Nymphalis antiopa (Linnaeus, 1758)   

 

Range: Temperate and boreal Eurasia and N America.

Distribution in Bulgaria: Widespread from sea level to 2400 m a.s.l.

Habitat: Deciduous and mixed forests, river valleys, gardens, bushy mountain slopes etc.

Bionomics: One generation appearing in June-July, hibernates and flies again next sping. Larval host-plants: Salix and Populus (Tolman & Lewington 1997).

Conservation status: Widespread, though usually only single specimens are observed. IUCN category: Lower risk, least concern.
