? Muschampia proto (Ochsenheimer, 1808)

Range: N Africa; the mediterranean and partly submediterranean zone of Europe, Asia Minor and the Near East. There is only a single, recently published record from Bulgaria (Abadjiev 2001). It is based on a single male in coll. Institute of Zoology - Sofia which according to its label has been collected in SW Bulgaria, Mt. Belasitsa [ca. 800 m a.s.l], on 15.04.1975 by Al. Slivov. This record is doubtful and requires confirmation for several reasons (Kolev 2002a). However, the occurrence of this species in the hottest part of theStruma valley and especially in the Sandanski-Petritch region cannot be excluded. New studies in this region are needed to resolve the situation.
