Melanargia galathea (Linnaeus, 1758)   


Range: Europe from N Spain to Ural and Caucasus; Asia Minor.

Distribution in Bulgaria: Widespread from sea level to 1800 m, strays recorded at up to 2400 m (Abadjiev 2001).

Habitat: Diverse grassy bushy places.

Bionomics: One generation from June till August. Larval host-plants: grasses (Poaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).

Conservation status: Widespread and common. IUCN category: Lower risk, least concern.
