Hyponephele lycaon (Rottemburg, 1775)   

Range: From Europe and Turkey to C Asia.

Distribution in Bulgaria: Mainly in mountains up to 1800 m a.s.l.

Habitat: Dry grassy sandy, stony or rocky, often steep, places.

Bionomics: One generation from June till August. Larval host-plants: grasses (Poaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).

Conservation status: Local but relatively widespread and locally common. IUCN category: Lower risk, least concern.
