Lycaena virgaureae (Linnaeus, 1758)   

 

Range: Temperate Eurasia.

Distribution in Bulgaria: Widespread mostly in mountains up to ca. 1800 m a.s.l. Only occasionally found in lowlands, e.g. near Plovdiv.

Habitat: Grassy bushy places, forest glades, moist meadows, river valleys.

Bionomics: One generation from June till August. Larval host-plants: various Rumex (Polygonaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).

Conservation status: Of no concern. IUCN category: Lower risk, least concern.
