Lycaena dispar ([Haworth], 1802)
Range: Temperate Eurasia.
Distribution in Bulgaria: Widespread though local in the whole country up to ca. 800 m a.s.l.
Habitat: Wet, seldom drier grassy places in the vicinity of lakes, ditches, streams, rivers and other sources of soil moisture.
Bionomics: Two generations from May till August. Larval host-plants: various Rumex (Polygonaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).
Conservation status: Rare or threatened in large part of Europe. Listed in Appendix II of the Bern Convention (CITES). In Bulgaria widespread and not directly threatened, but its populations are small and habitats potentially vulnerable to human activities. IUCN category: Lower risk, near threatened.
