Cupido alcetas (Hoffmansegg, 1804)

Name in Tolman & Lewington (1997): Everes alcetas

Range: Temperate Eurasia.

Distribution in Bulgaria: Widespread but local from sea level to ca. 1400 m.

Habitat: According to my own observations wet, seldom drier grassy places in the vicinity of lakes, ditches, streams, rivers and other sources of soil moisture.  Has similar ecological requirements to Lycaena dispar and the two species frequently occur together.

Bionomics: Two or three generations from May to September. Larval host-plant: Galega officinalis (Fabaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).

Conservation status: Local, usually scarce and distributed mostly in regions with extensive agriculture and development, though not directly threatened. IUCN category: Lower risk, near threatened.
