Carcharodus flocciferus (Zeller, 1847)

Systematics: See Carcharodus orientalis.

Range: N Africa, Europe, Asia from Turkey to Altai.

Distribution in Bulgaria: Widespread but local from sea level up to 2000 m; in S Bulgaria mainly in mountains.

Habitat: Moderately moist or dry grassy places.

Bionomics: One or two generations depending on altitude, from June till August. Larval host-plants: Stachys (Lamiaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).

Conservation status: Widespread but local and rarely numerous species. IUCN category: Lower risk, near threatened.
