Plebeius eumedon (Esper, [1780])   

Name in Tolman & Lewington (1997): Eumedonia eumedon
 

Range: Temperate Eurasia.

Distribution in Bulgaria: The higher mountains, so far known from Stara Planina, Konyavska Planina, Vitosha, Rila, Pirin, Alibotush and W Rhodopi at altitudes from 500 to ca. 2000 m (Rila, observed by R. Essayan, in Abadjiev 2001). Its occurrence on other Bulgarian high mountains is probable.

Habitat: Grassy, flowery places containing the larval host-plant, usually near woodland.

Bionomics: One generation from June till August. Larval host-plant: Geranium (Geraniaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).

Conservation status: Further research on the distribution and population dynamics of this local species in Bulgaria are necessary. In view of the wide availability of suitable habitats can hardly be considered of immediate concern. IUCN category: Data Deficient, possibly Lower risk, near threatened.
