Argynnis pandora ([Schiffermüller], 1775)   

 

Range: N Africa, S Europe, W and C Asia.

Distribution in Bulgaria: Widespread from sea level up to ca. 1700 m.

Habitat: Diverse warm sites, e.g. gardens, fringes of cultivated land, woodland margins, roads, clearings and glades, river valleys, bushy slopes. The adults typically concentrate where nettles, a favourite nectar source, grow.

Bionomics: One or two generations from May till September. Larval host-plant: Viola (Tolman & Lewington 1997).

Conservation status: Of no concern. IUCN category: Lower risk, least concern.
