Apatura iris (Linnaeus, 1758)   

 

Range: The temperate Palearctic with a wide gap from Ural Mts. to lake Baikal.

Distribution in Bulgaria: In mountains from 300 up to 1700 m a.s.l.

Habitat: River valleys with deciduous or mixed woodland, including willows.

Bionomics: One generation from June till August. Larval host-plant: Salix (Tolman & Lewington 1997).

Conservation status: Relatively widespread and locally common in Bulgaria. IUCN category: Lower risk, least concern.
